About this data
How to read this table
Every value in the table above is the manufacturer's own published figure, copied from the maker's product page, spec sheet or manual. This is the smallest category in the database and also the one with the thinnest spec sheets, so expect more cells reading Not published than elsewhere. We would rather show you a short honest row than fill it with plausible numbers.
The figures that are consistently published are suction pressure, the safety tether rating, power source, and the glass types the maker says the unit will hold to. Those four are the ones worth comparing across brands; almost everything else is described in marketing language rather than measured units.
What actually decides which window robot fits
Adhesion is the whole product. A window robot is a vacuum pump that happens to clean, and the published suction figure is what keeps it on the glass. Manufacturers state a backup power reserve and a safety rope precisely because a power cut is the failure case, and any unit used above ground floor should have both published rather than implied.
Surface type limits use more than buyers expect. Makers state whether a unit works on frameless glass, framed glass, or both, and whether it will cross a frame or mullion at all. On a window divided into small panes, a robot that cannot cross a frame has to be moved by hand for each pane, which removes most of the point.
Then the cleaning method. Most units carry a microfibre pad and spray or dampen it; published detail covers whether the fluid is dispensed by the machine or the pad must be pre-wetted, and how large the pad is. Cleaning path patterns are published as named modes, and the number of modes says less than whether the unit can be told to repeat an edge pass.
Cable length matters even on models described as cordless, because most run from mains power with a battery only as a safety reserve. Where a maker publishes cable length, that figure sets how far from an outlet you can work.
Buying advice: glass, safety and fit
Measure the job before comparing machines. Count the panes you actually want cleaned, note which are single large sheets and which are divided by glazing bars, and check whether you can reach the outside face at all. A window robot is attached from the inside for the outside face on most designs, so the pane has to open or the robot has to be carried outside — that practical limit rules out more homes than any published figure does.
On upper floors, read the safety figures first. The published safety rope length has to reach a secure anchor point inside the room, and the power-cut hold time says how long the robot's backup battery keeps suction if the plug is pulled or the power fails. Ecovacs Winbot, Hobot and other makers state these figures on some models and not others; where a maker publishes neither, this table shows Not published and you should treat that as a reason for caution rather than a neutral gap.
Glass type is the next constraint. Frameless glass balustrades, shower screens and large picture windows suit a robot that works edge-to-edge without a frame to stop against; framed windows need a model whose maker states frame support or frame detection. Textured, frosted, coated or heavily curved glass is outside most makers' stated compatibility, and where a spec sheet does not mention a surface we do not assume it works.
Finally, check the power arrangement. Many window robots run from mains power with a battery only as a reserve, so the published cable length decides how far from an outlet you can reach a pane. If you want the shortlist sorted on the three failure-case figures — adhesion, safety rope and power-cut hold time — the data-ranked guide to the best window cleaning robot does exactly that from manufacturer figures only.
A realistic expectation
Window robots handle large flat panes of glass well and struggle with corners, deep frames and heavy grime. No published specification captures that, and we do not test units, so this table sets out to do one thing precisely: put the manufacturers' own figures for adhesion, safety and surface compatibility next to each other in the same units.
Common questions
- Are window cleaning robots safe to use on upper floors?
- Manufacturers publish a safety tether rating and a backup power reserve because loss of mains power is the failure case. Any unit used above ground level should state both, and the maker's own instructions on tether anchoring should be followed exactly.
- Can a window robot clean panes with frames between them?
- Only where the maker publishes that the unit crosses frames or works on framed glass. On windows divided into small panes, a unit restricted to frameless glass has to be repositioned by hand for every pane.
- What does power-cut hold time mean?
- It is the manufacturer's published figure for how long the robot's backup battery keeps it stuck to the glass after mains power is lost. It gives you time to retrieve the unit; it is not a cleaning runtime.
- Do window cleaning robots work on shower screens and glass balustrades?
- Many are rated for smooth frameless glass, which covers most shower screens and balustrades, but textured, frosted or coated glass is often outside the stated compatibility. Check the surfaces listed on the maker's own spec sheet.
- Does RobotMatchup test window cleaning robots?
- No. Every figure is the manufacturer's own published data, and no unit has been used or tested by us. The data-ranked guide orders models on published suction, safety rope and power-cut hold time only.
